Director of Scheduling - Motor Coach
Summary:
The Scheduling Director is responsible for leading and overseeing the scheduling operations team, ensuring that routes, trips, and driver assignments are efficiently planned and executed to meet customer demand and operational needs. This leadership role demands strategic oversight, strong management skills, and the ability to leverage data and technology to optimize scheduling and ensure high levels of service quality and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Scheduling Oversight:
- Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive scheduling strategies that align with the company’s operational goals, guest needs, and profitability.
- Oversee the creation and optimization of all motor coach schedules, considering factors such as route efficiency, passenger demand, maintenance schedules, and driver and affiliate availability.
- Continuously assess scheduling to improve service reliability, reduce operational costs, and maximize fleet utilization.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Direct and manage the scheduling team, providing leadership and support to ensure seamless logistics scheduling operations.
- Hire, train, and develop the scheduling team, ensuring they possess the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
- Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance evaluations, and provide constructive feedback and guidance to improve team productivity, efficiency and morale.
- Collaboration with Sales, Operations & Customer Service:
- Collaborate closely with the operations, maintenance, and sales teams to ensure coordination between scheduling, vehicle availability, and customer service goals.
- Work with sales team daily to consider future planning.
- Route Planning & Optimization:
- Develop new routes, adjust current schedules, and potentially create new future schedules based on demand forecasts, market trends, seasonal variations, and customer needs.
- Implement and suggest technology solutions or enhancements, such as route optimization software and scheduling tools, to streamline the scheduling process.
- Leverage advanced scheduling software, route optimization tools, and data analytics to improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Use data-driven insights to identify scheduling trends, forecast demand, and make informed decisions regarding fleet management and resource allocation.
- Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:
- Ensure all schedules comply with federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including but not limited to hours of service, driver safety protocols, and licensing requirements.
- Financial and Budget Management:
- Oversee the budgeting and resource allocation for the scheduling department, ensuring that operations are cost-effective and stay within budget.
- Develop and manage cost-effective scheduling strategies that maximize fleet utilization while minimizing operational overhead.
- Affiliate Relations:
- Manage and oversee affiliate company relationships, ensuring adherence to customer service standards, accepted schedules and contractual obligations.
- Communication:
- Communicate clearly with internal teams, drivers, and passengers about schedule changes, updates, and potential disruptions.
- Participate in meetings with leadership and executives to clearly communicate scheduling topics and provide suggestions for improving scheduling operations.
